The Fall Of An Empire

We watch from the inner edge,
As your Empire slowly falls,
As the fires in Athens arise,
To lick at the sky, as red ribbons,
Scorching the streets, blistering tarmac,
Amid banks burning, acrid smoke,
As jackals feast upon the dead.
The Greeks are killing Greeks,
Attacking their toys and trinkets
The luxuries that enslave them,
As the Empire in its ancient cradle,
Chokes on its vomit, wretched,
Where it arose, first born as Rome,
As the old gods watch, weeping,
For all their insane children,
Bound in hollow chains of gold,
Whilst Titans are rising in the dark,
Ready now to rule, ready now to kill.
