It is seldom that a television programme these days has the capacity to impress me to the point where I will eulogise it, but the Channel 4 drama ' The Devil's Whore' last night at 9 PM was an example of British television at its very best.
A drama charting the background and impact of the English Civil War, it was TV drama of a kind we have not seen for a long time.
The cinematography and imagery were superb, the script tight and intelligent, the acting top rate and the actors at top form.

John Simms was superb. He plays a psychopathic hired killer whose loyalty is solely to gold and his amorality almost animal like. He is redeemed in war and finds a cause.
The moment when he spoke the words ' Now the Killing begins ' at the commencement of the Civil War was sublime.
It rated with the scene in the recent film 'Mongol' where Genghis Khan is in a prison cell, alone, weak and powerless and utterly abandoned by fate. Temugin had been captired by his enemies and sold into slavery, then brought as a prisoner to a city where he was displayed in a cage for people to laugh and jeer at.
Then an old Buddhist monk sees him in the cage and in the middle of a rain storm says to the imprisoned Temugin 'Master I know you have been sent to punish the world for its crimes '.
It was only the Buddhist monk, who was able to see the essence of Temugin and beyond the fragile bars of iron, who understood that one day the cage door would open and retribution would unleash upon the world as lightning from a wild and mighty storm.
What was eerie though was the synchronicity with recent events with the release of the BNP list.
Today, and just as then, we have an elite who regard the British constitution, our inalienable civil rights, such as the right to total freedom of speech and the right to freedom of association, as things they can usurp and remove.
Just like some arrogant, out of touch and despotic monarchy the Labour government and the Liberal Elite, its intellectual and political aristocracy, think they have the rights and power to place yokes back around the necks of Free Born Britons.
They are badly ****ing mistaken.
The drama itself has an ironic title, in that the phrase the 'devils whore' is used by the side that are the tyrants.
Its a bit like being called 'scum' by Stalin or 'fascist' by one of the maggots in the Labour Party - who started an illegal Oil Imperalist war in Iraq, who have killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens, that talk about bringing democracy to Iraq whilst removing our civil rights and constitutional liberties and that are supported by a British media that have sexualised our culture and children.
Being called the Devils Whore was in fact a complement.
When the Devil calls you evil, you know you are good.
This time though the only Whore is the political system itself.
The whore that opens its legs to oppression, tyranny and the usurpation of our national rights are the Houses of Parliament.
Parliament has become the enemy of the British people.
All political revolutions begin with simple acts of defiance, and then as the state reveals its true fascistic nature and removes our rights, then change accelerates.
Once the process has begun, the process cannot be stopped.
That process has begun once again - and the tyrants in the government and the whoremaster politicians of all mainstream political parties that sit in the glorified knocking shop of Parliament know that the people have woken up and see them for the whores they truly are.
Their pathetic paper tiger of the media that keeps them as pets and that peddles propaganda to the British people so as to create a social consensus that supports the liberal elite and its pet neutered opposition parties like the Tories, are rapidly fading away in power and influence.
All systems rise and fall, and this system is coming to an end.
An era of National Rebirth is about to begin - and the whores fear themselves losing power.
If they were not attacking us in the media and in Parliament then we would be sure we were doing something wrong somewhere.
The next British Civil War will not be against the Monarchy, instead it will be a cultural, political, social, economic, environmental, ideological and legal struggle against the entire Liberal Consensus and all its pernicious aspects.
It will be an war of annihilation, where we will cast into the bonfires of history the laws, the legislation and the entire structures of the Liberal Terror State and the liberal fascist Surviellance Society.
We will restore to the British people their entire British constitutional rights and liberties and enshrine them as active forces in law in order to ensure that never again will transient politicians be able to surrender our inalienable constitutional rights and liberties with transient laws that benefit only the political parties, their paymasters and their media pimps.
We stand for National Liberty and National Justice - and we will destroy the entire Servile State and all its systems and mechanisms.
The monarchy are an utter irrelevance.
At best they are good for the tourist industry and add poignancy to parades, at worst they are profligate wastrels.
If the two princes can escape the facile and asinine ' Liberal Ivory Tower' that they are inhabiting where they are forced by their advisors to act as some simpering ' global social workers' seeking to give us lectures on Africa on 3rd world poverty whilst taking joyrides in army helicopters that would usually result in dismissal, prison or the firing squad during wartime - then they can be saved before they vanish up their own arses.
Seeing Prince Harry trying to act like some simpering social worker ponce from some inner city Labour run rathole in Inner London like Islington 'wiv his right on wiv da yoof street slanging innit ' doing rap and giving it ' yo, yo' wiv da gangsta signs yeah' to some ethnic gangster thugs from Peckham in a multi-million pound community centre on some government sponsored scheme to 'reintegrate' gun criminals into society, is cringe worthy.
To be frank the pair of them are beginning to look like a couple of dickheads.
We want our Princes to defend our British Constitution, our rights, our national environment, our national culture and our civil rights and liberties - not to act like a pair of New Labour transexuals and flounce about talking a load of liberal rubbish.
Anyway, back to the drama.
The drama was dark and beautiful, whilst some scenes were simply stunning to watch.
The scene where John Sims gives a speech whilst having a wash and the camera films the scene from inside the washing bowl and through the moving water was a superb shot. Hopefully the director, writer and the camera director will be recognised for their work.
Watch this series.

Yep - Iliked it to - though some of the language was anachronistic: when was Anarchy first used in English? It sometimes seemed a bit Mills & Boonish and the fight scenes insipid at times - but it still had me hooked and wanting more. I too saw the parallels with modern England. And though it was the English Civil War most of Britain got involved!!!
I'm with you on this one. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it, can't wait for the next episode. A very interesting drama, in very interesting times.
