The cop, in his 40s and based at a CID unit in South London, had made "hundreds" of illegal searches on the Met Police's database. He resigned on the spot and is due to answer bail today. He could be charged with misconduct in a public office.
A police source said: "He's a traitor. One burglar - without prompting - said his DNA was on a carton as he'd given it to a friend. It blew the case apart."
Scotland Yard said: "An officer was arrested in connection with misuse of police information and bailed."
