The Lawrence Trial

What Rod Liddle wrote in November 2011 about the Lawrence Trial before the Spectator removed the link to censor his comments ;

Now, here's a good one. The judge in the Stephen Lawrence murder trial told potential jurors that they must approach the evidence 'with a clean slate'. That is, not be inclined to prejudge the issue as a consequence of having been assured, repeatedly, for the last twelve years, by the entire press, that the men accused are disgusting racist bastards and definitely guilty. Judge Treacy might as well have told the jurors that they must approach the case 'by eating fifteen Jacobs cream crackers, without any water or other emolument, inside one minute'. The case is a charade, and a vindictive charade at that.

A few years ago two of the men not now facing a retrial were sentenced to eighteen months in prison for having thrown an empty paper cup in the direction of a black policeman. Eighteen months! But of course they were not sentenced to eighteen months for having thrown an empty paper cup in the direction of a police officer, they were sentenced to eighteen months for the crime of having not been found guilty of the murder of Stephen Lawrence.

I don't think that they are very nice people. So I suppose it's ok that we invent a new system of justice to ensure they get banged up.

The Duwayne Brooks File

Looks like the state have been protecting Duwayne Brooks to ensure his 'evidence' in the Lawrence Trial was not undermined by his having a serious criminal conviction.

The Duwayne Brooks file:

October 1993 Surrendered voluntarily to Bexleyheath police station, where he was charged under section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act, relating to an allegation of violent disorder at a British National party march. Eventually the proceedings were stayed on December 13 1994 after the judge ruled an abuse of process. The judge had invited the CPS to discontinue the case earlier, but it refused to do so.

May 27 1998 Police requested an interview about an allegation of kidnapping at Catford station. He was bailed until July 23 when police announced that they were taking no further action.

July 8 1998 Stopped under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in the City of London. Searched and arrested for possession of a knife and theft of a credit card. Bailed from the police station and when he returned on August 4 was charged with possession of an offensive weapon. The action was discontinued in September.

July 4 1999 Stopped by police in in his car, which was searched. A photocopying tool was found (he works as a photocopying engineer). Police alleged it was an offensive weapon and charged him with possession of a bladed article. They also found credit cards and chequebooks in the car and he was arrested for handling stolen goods. He was bailed to appear before Tower Bridge magistrates. The case was discontinued on August 3.

August 17 1999 Arrested in Peckham, south London, for taking and driving away a car and threatening behaviour. Taken to Peckham police station and bailed until August 6, when police notified him that they were taking no further action.

September 16 1999 Arrested and charged with attempted rape and indecent assault. Originally refused bail by police and court. Finally bailed on September 29 on condition he resided in Birmingham. At his committal hearing on November 5 police announced they had dropped the charge of attempted rape. An Old Bailey judge threw out the case as an abuse of process.

The Aim Of The New World Order

http://quotes.liberty-tree.ca/quote/carroll_quigley_quote_e775

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

Obama The Great Dictator

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-57350621-503544/obama-signs-defense-bill-with-reservations/

HONOLULU -- Two days before the deadline, President Obama signed a defense spending bill into law - while admitting he has "serious reservations with certain provisions" related to how suspected terrorists are held and questioned.

In a written statement, Mr. Obama makes clear he objects to sections in the National Defense Authorization Act that "regulate the detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected terrorists."

Despite his objections, Mr. Obama says he signed the measure, known by its initials NDAA, because it authorizes needed funding to defend the nation, support the military and renew "vital national security programs."

Among the provisions to which the president objects is a grant of permission for the indefinite military detention of terror suspects by the military.

Mr. Obama said he didn't ask for such authority and doesn't want it.

"I want to clarify that my administration will not authorize the indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Indeed, I believe that doing so would break with our most important traditions and values as a nation."

Mr. Obama says his administration will interpret that provision "in a manner that ensures that any detention it authorizes complies with the Constitution, the laws of war, and all other applicable law."

Further, Mr. Obama bluntly rejects authorization in the bill requiring military custody for some foreign detainees captured on a field of battle.

In his statement, Mr. Obama calls that provision "ill-conceived" and says it will "do nothing to improve the security of the United States."

Mr. Obama says he rejects "any approach that would mandate military custody where law enforcement provides the best method of incapacitating a terrorist threat."

He says he signed the bill in the belief he can circumvent this and other provisions to which he objects.

That very much includes provisions that forbid the government from transferring detainees from the facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the U.S.

Mr. Obama had made it a top campaign pledge to shut down the prison, known as Gitmo, believing that it gave al Qaeda and other terror groups a rallying cry with which to recruit supporters to use against the United States.

But Congress continues to block his decision to close Gitmo and move the terror suspects held there to a maximum security facility in Illinois.

Another provision would block the government from transferring Gitmo detainees to other countries.

Mr. Obama uses his "signing statement" to serve notice on Congress that in the event the provisions on detainees at Guantanamo breach his constitutional powers as Commander-in-Chief, "my administration will interpret them to avoid the constitutional conflict." That's a fancy, highly-legalistic way of saying - he'll do things the way he thinks is right.

Overall, the measure affirms and supports Mr. Obama's policy decision on Iraq and Afghanistan - and that's why he is signing the measure into law. - after originally issuing a veto threat because of the aforementioned difficulties.

As a candidate, Mr. Obama was critical of President George W. Bush for using "signing statements" as a way of seeking to circumvent the will of Congress. Mr. Obama said at the time that Pres Bush should have vetoed the bills and insisted on getting them re-written and re-enacted to his likening.

As he discovered since taking office, that's not always possible.

A signing statement has no force of law. If Mr. Obama violates any of the provisions in the bill, Congress could challenge the White House in court, which would have the final say in any dispute.

Estonia and the SS

" In August 6, 1940, Estonia was annexed by the Soviet Union. Estonians who did not support the USSR were condemned to death by Soviet tribunals. Repression & mass deportations followed. In 1940–1941I the Estonia's political and intellectual leaders were killed or deported to Siberia by the Soviets. Repressive actions were also taken against thousands of ordinary people. The Soviet Union conscripted about 34,000 young Estonian men & boys into the Soviet Army, less than 30% of them survived. Estonian WW2 deaths were, estimated at around 25% of the population, and were among the highest in Europe. The Russians deported more than 20,000 Estonians to labour camps or Siberia. Half of those deported perished the other half were not allowed to return until the early 1960s, years after Stalin's death. Estonia did not escape Soviet domination until 1989. Estonian men joined the Waffen SS to fight for their country's freedom from the Russians, were they freedom fighters? Yes they were.
"

Comment from article below.

The Estonians have every right to honour their SS fighters who fought Bolshevism, just as the Germans did.

Those amongst all the armies of WW2 who committed atrocities - which was members of every army in that war - should not be celebrated or allowed to participate in such ceremonies.

The Russians of all nations in WW2 should realise that they of all the nations have the least right to moralise from the moral high ground.

Their atrocities were legion.

Estonia has caused outrage with plans to honour hundreds of Nazi collaborators.

The EU country is expected to give official ‘freedom fighter’ status to veterans of the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division.

Several hundred who fought in the Estonian SS gather annually to commemorate their role in battles against Soviet forces.

The veterans say they allied with the Nazis to defend their country from the Soviets but anti-Nazi campaigners claim the troops were involved in war crimes against civilians.

Johan Backman, of World without Nazism, said: ‘The Estonian SS legionaries did not fight for Estonia. They fought for Hitler.’

Russia described the move as ‘blasphemous and unacceptable’.

Several hundred men who fought in the Estonian SS still gather every year to commemorate their role in battles against Soviet forces.

The move for recognition is being spearheaded by powerful Defence Minister Mart Laar, pictured, the country's ex-premier

The division was founded in 1944 by the occupying Nazis - three years after Germany launched Operation Barbarossa and invaded Russia with the most powerful invasion force in history.

More than three million German troops attacked in three parallel offensives. Despite warnings that Germany could not fight a war on two fronts, Hitler saw the Russian invasion of Romania in 1940 as a threat to his Balkan oil supply and invaded with 3,000 tanks, 2,500 aircraft and 7,000 artillery pieces.

The Red Army was disorganised and the Germans were able to push 300 miles into Russia before the winter hit and the advance slowed.

The war on the Eastern Front went on for four bloody years and arguably resulted in the eventual defeat of the Nazis.

At the last gathering of the Estonian veterans in August last year, they were promised the Tallinn government was moving to officially recognise them in 2012. The move is being spearheaded by powerful Defence Minister Mart Laar, the country's ex-premier.

'If Mart Laar makes any promise, he will move to his goal like a tank, and you will be freedom fighters as early as next year,' said Tarmo Kruusimae, activist of ruling party Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica.

Legislation is now being drawn up in Tallinn which now aims to keep this promise to all those who fought in Estonia against the USSR.

The SS veterans claim they only allied with the Nazis to defend their country from Soviet invasion. In the event, their efforts failed and the Baltic state was swallowed up by the Soviet Union for more than four decades.

But anti-Nazi campaigners dismiss this and claim the Estonians were collaborators involved in war crimes against civilians.

Mr Backman, a leader of the international human rights group World Without Nazism, added: 'The government is trying to create a new history of Estonia, which is very dangerous for the young generation.'

The Russian embassy in Tallinn claimed legislation to name them 'freedom fighters' was a bid to 'cover the atrocities committed by Estonian Nazi collaborators'.
This was 'blasphemous and unacceptable' and should be abandoned, said Moscow.
'We hope that in this case common sense, conscience and a feeling of responsibility will prevail.'

..A £200 million package to help turn around the lives of Britain's most troubled families has been unveiled by employment minister Chris Grayling.

The outreach programme will be delivered by a mixture of public, private and voluntary organisations which will be paid by results.

Focusing on households with at least one member on benefits, the scheme will complement work by local authorities to help the 120,000 most dysfunctional households in the country.

Prime Minister David Cameron last month announced £448 million for councils to send in trouble-shooters to such families over the next four years.

The latest initiative, based on the same principles as the payment-by-results Work Programme, is designed to help people acquire the skills to find work and stay in it.

It will also assist with family and parenting issues, money management, alcohol and drug abuse and housing problems.

Eight welfare-to-work companies have been appointed by Mr Grayling to work with councils and more than 200 local organisations, most of which are voluntary or charitable groups.

It will be funded out of money from the European Social Fund.

Mr Grayling said: "This will be a big part of the work we do to tackle the challenge of troubled families.

"The organisations taking part in this programme are staking their own money on their ability to turn the lives of these people around."
